Thank you for your upgrade request.
If you are currently running Remote Desktop Canary Version 3.x or 4.x…
You can upgrade Remote Desktop Canary directly in place to Version 4.2.3. Simply download the installer at the link below, and install it on the system already running Remote Desktop Canary.
Make sure that you are logged in with an account which has full Administrator rights on the system running Remote Desktop Canary when you perform the upgrade operation, and make sure you explicitly right-mouse click on the v4.x installer package and choose “Run as Administrator.” This will prevent installation errors related to UAC elevation problems that could lead to your previous global settings not being maintained post upgrade.

After the upgrade completes, the Remote Desktop Canary service will be restarted, and it should automatically resume your scheduled testing workflows as before.
If you are currently running Remote Desktop Canary Version 2.x or earlier…
There is NOT a direct upgrade path or “install on top of option” to Remote Desktop Canary 3.0 because of the new service architecture. So, to upgrade, please perform these steps:
1.) Make a note of where the Remote Desktop Canary Workflow file or files (.RDCW files) are located that Remote Desktop Canary 2.0 currently uses for its testing. Most likely they have been saved under the My Documents folder or Desktop folder of the user account under which Remote Desktop Canary has been running. You will need to schedule this workflow file or file(s) with the Remote Desktop Canary service in the new version, so you need to know where they are saved on this system.
2.) Please note that Remote Desktop Canary v4.x now only supports installation on Windows Server 2012R2, Windows Server 2016, Windows Server 2019, Windows Server 2022, and Windows 10/11 Multisession in Azure Virtual Desktop. Remote Desktop Canary no longer supports installation on Windows 10/11 standard single user operating systems, because of the new service architecture that requires a dedicated user session to be running at all times for testing. If you have been using a single user version of Windows 10 to host Canary, please install Remote Desktop Canary v4.x to a new VM on one of the compatible operating systems listed above, and copy your .RDCW files to that new VM, OR continue to use Remote Desktop Canary v2.x on your Windows 10 systems as before.
3.) Log on with an account that has Administrator rights on the VM running Remote Desktop Canary. Uninstall Remote Desktop Canary v2.x from the Programs and Features area of the Control Panel.
4.) Install Remote Desktop Canary v4.x, and configure the Remote Desktop Canary User Testing account the Remote Desktop Canary service will use to run its workflow tests. Please watch this video to see how this is done. Maximize the video in full screen mode and make sure you configure your YouTube settings so you watch it in high resolution.
5.) Schedule (register) your previously saved workflow files with the new Remote Desktop Canary service. Please watch this video to see how this is done. Maximize the video in full screen mode and make sure you configure your YouTube settings so you watch it in high resolution.
